Taken at the concert that ended the Peace Mela organised by Citizens for Peace on October 2nd, 2007. This was in the road that runs between Horniman Circle and the Asiatic Library, which had been cordoned off to make a sort of amphitheatre, with the library steps being used for seating.

Not bad, though I say so myself, considering I didn't have a tripod.

These shots were taken around dawn (except the first one, which was at sundown), from various points around the shore of Micheal's Land, a resort belonging to the Kondo Syokai group. It's a fifteen- maybe twenty-minute-drive from Fort Cochin.

These chaps paused as they were about to pass each other and stopped to chat. P'raps they were talking about where the fish were biting. Or maybe it was about the evening's toddy-drinking plans.

So pleased with this one. Sprinted—well, okay, stumbled and huffed and panted and lumbered—along the bank to get to the spot where the fisherman would be in the ripples lit by the rising sun, found flat spot to place camera in lieu of tripod, got the shutter speed just right, and after five shots, he obligingly bent over to haul in his net just as the shutter opened. All at 10x zoom. *chortle, chortle*

Cochin Harbour

Can't do Cochin harbour without taking a shot of the Chinese fishing nets, can you?

When you see a "No smoking" sign this size rumble past you, and you're in a dinky little sailng yacht, you obey.

On Sunday morn, you would have seen a dot in the middle of the second bay. That dot would have been this blog. Om Beach, Gokarna.

Lady and little boy fetching water from some unknown point. The backwaters (yes, I didn't know you had them in Karnataka either) are in the background. Taken on the way back, also from car window. Damn good driver this time. Drove very fast, but one never felt that he wasn't in complete control of his vehicle. NH 17, Somewhere between Gokarna and Karwar.

The first wild elephants we have laid eyes on. Max zoom, of course. One doesn't want to upset critters this size.

Missed out on getting a glimpse of the old tusker who raids the vegetable garden at the Tallayar plantation, though.

I think this is a kingfisher. S/he was too far away to see clearly with the naked eye. This was at full 10x zoom.

Hugely delighted with this shot. Again, full zoom, from an armchair in my villa's porch.

This dude was surfing the thermals coming up the hill. Missed the shot when he was overhead, and got lucky as he spiralled back. As far as I know, this is a fishing eagle. Brown body, white head.

Freakishly lucky shot. Must have been about 10, 15 metres away, in a clear blue sky. I (don't tell anyone now) did the yeeha-fist-pump thing when I saw this on the camera display.

Looked up, saw this guy overhead, swung camera to eye with smooth, swift motion, almost took eye out, clicked.

Three in the bush, erm, tree. Naah. Doesn't have a ring to it.

The first appearance in print ever of this combination of words: "Photographs Peter Griffin." 'Twas only a little review of a hotel we visited in April (which is why we suspect, they used our shots and didn't send a pro along), but we're very pleased with ourself.

It was a heavy day, meetings in different parts of Delhi - from Nizamuddin to Hauz Khas, then Darya Ganj, then Okhla and a long search, then a shorter search in another phase. Mercury well into the 40s, a heat haze, mingled wih much dust and pollution. We drank lots of water, and, sunk deep into the seat of our hired car, we, in our usual macho way, whine piteously to ourself about the heat and the dryness.
